Summary
Writing that they were glad to get news of her and informing her they are "all as usual", mentioning various daily activities, noting that Edgar has been "amiable" and has taken charge of the coffee maker, and that the American Colonel has "insisted upon lending us 'Muffin' one afternoon ... she was most agreeable and affectionate; she licks your face or your hands with her little rough tongue like a dog rather than a cat"; mentioning that she mislaid her pen, household matters, and work on the house; noting that Mr. Walford has been twice to read "the preface of his book of verse to Father", and that he entered into an argument with her father regarding some cuts he recommended be made to the text; mentioning "Annie V." (i.e. Annie Vizetelly) and her difficulties and her desire that their father should collaborate with Frank (Vizetelly), and further noting that she is ill, and confessing that, while they all feel sorry for her, she strains their sympathies, adding "really we can do nothing if I had £50 to throw away I could find five people to divide it among who deserve ot more, and to whom it would do more good"; urging Jessy to take care that she not strain herself, discussing her return (to Ventnor), and stressing that she should not hurry to join them. Enclosing a small sheet of paper with trains times between Hastings and Horsted Keynes.
