Apologizing for not responding to her letter earlier; saying that she liked hearing about "Puff," because she once had a white rat named Sammy "and there are not many people who like rats except you and me"; describing Sammy's antics; saying "[t]here has been a nest of young owls in our barn this summer" and describing the behavior of the owlets when the old owl brings them mice; adding "I am so sorry you have not been well again, I hope you are feeling better"; wishing Dulcie and Puff a Merry Christmas. Illustrated with sketches of the owlets.
