Saying that he thought he sent this letter and "On that particular date January 6th I went back to Twickenham. And this must have been one of the last letters I wrote before departing"; explaining it fell behind a bureau; Saying "on second throughts I decided to open it, never dreaming of the disclosure it made. What you must have thought of me meanwhile in view of this letter I daren't consider" and asking forgiveness; recounting "hard work all the time at Twickenham" and work on "the long poem 'Winged Chariot'" and "In Memorium"; feeling disappointed to have missed Encaenia at Oxford to work.
