Hawthorne and Willa Cather interest me."; looking forward to his review of Love; saying it was "immensely kind of you have suggested me for the Walker-Ames professorship at the University of Washington" but feels he is "much too old now for these excursions"; saying he has been "atrociously indolent" but has a few poems and "a sort of narrative thing of well over four hundred lines in four-line stanzas."
