Summary
Confirming that he has received the recipient's book from "the 'officine' of Hannaford" and that he has already asked a friend of his who reviews books for the Daily Telegraph to give it a "positive mention"; remarking on "The shocking revelations of Jim Crow!" and adding that do not shock him, "for most of your views I have shared for years"; going on to write that agrees with the recipient about Switzerland and that he has "always made a point of never going there" and stating that it was once his "ambition to die without having seen either Switzerland or Brighton", going on to write that he was "inveigled to Brighton last year by a young person", and noticed the effects of "Oceanus" on the city, which he compares facetiously to the hostility the ocean ("old Bluebeard") bears the city of Venice; stating that he agrees with everything the recipient says about Paris and that he has been thinking about who might be induced "to quote you with appropriate indignation in the French press"; noting that he will probably be visiting London at the end of October and hopes he have the pleasure of meeting the recipient again.
