Accompanying note from James Ivory reads: Ruth's final screenplay with me-- an adaptation of the story by Henry James, "The Aspern Papers," but not in the 1880s, when James published it, but in 1950, the year I first went to Venice, age 22.
Part of a collection of film director James Ivory's heavily annotated shooting scripts, editing notebooks, and small scripts. Each of the thirty-one films he directed for Merchant Ivory Productions is represented in the collection, beginning with the production company's first film, The Householder (1963), and including, among others, The Europeans (1979), A Room with A View (1985), Howards End (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993), The Golden Bowl (2000), and The City of Your Final Destination (2010). The collection also includes two films directed by Ivory's partner, Ismail Merchant (In Custody (1994) and The Mystic Masseur (2002)).
