Sketchbook and notebook with contents dated 1898 to 1899, containing list of themes and subjects to serve as topics for illustrations, including "Hyde Park all the year round", Love in London", "The streets of London", "Society functions", "The theatres", "Customs", etc.; included are series of drawings of famous women and female characters from literature with the title "An alphabet of beauty"; a number of cartoons finding humor in social and domestics subjects; and a series of rough sketches of street musicians and criers entitled "Book of Street Noises." Sullivan inverted the volume and re-employed it as a notebook for his literary compositions, including poetry, a dramatic piece with the title "Chagrin d'Amour" featuring the character of Pierrot and other Commedia figures from the popular stage and possibly intended as a pantomime, followed by sketches for decorative title designs and studies of various subjects.
