Summary
Telling Ivory she has looked over "About the Film" [an essay meant in some way to introduce "Bombay Talkie"] and feels it's fine, but offering a slight rewrite of the last paragraph; asking him to tell her when the film will open in Britain, "so I can start steeling myself"; laying out her reasoning for the conclusion that "everything is not as bad as we thought"; dismissing Pauline Kael's bad review of "Bombay Talkie," which upset Ivory, and saying Penelope GIlliatt's review of "The Guru" upset her more; quoting a kind remark about their films from Roger Angell; expressing concern for Merchant, as critical and financial failure affects him in the most concrete way; suggesting she dedicate her latest book ["An Experience of India"] to Shashi, Jennifer, and "Bombay Talkie" as a way of trying to mitigate their disappointment in the fate of the film; agreeing to write to Joe and Angelika Saleh, but saying she doesn't know what to say to them.
