Letter from Ismail Merchant, Udaipur, India, to James Ivory, New York, New York, 1971 November 24 : autograph manuscript signed.

Telling Ivory they arrived at Udaipur at 5pm, and are staying at the "beautiful" Lake Palace Hotel, which is happily being managed by staff from the Taj in Bombay who recognized Merchant; saying they will be visiting "His Highness" tomorrow and then will begin shooting; reassuring Ivory that he (Merchant) will pay a bill for him; noting that a "Miss Charles" has said she forwarded some letter from Ivory to Merchant and noting he has "had no news from you and am very anxious to hear all about you-- Savages-- our contract with Joe"; adding he is waiting for "the final signed draft" of the contract from Joe; asking if Ivory has paid Taher Doctor yet-- "Please do as he is getting very upset. I understand your difficulties but please pay the debt"; telling Ivory he wants him to come to Bombay for Christmas, offering to pay for the ticket, and hoping they can come back to New York together; telling him he will telephone from Delhi on the 30th; saying "I miss you and think of you very much"; saying he has more to write but needs to "construct" everything; promising to write about meeting "Jermeyne [sic] Greer," author of "The Female Eunuch."
