Summary
Writing that "The Survivor & Others" is being released mostly to gauge whether a market for hardcover books exists when there is such a proliferation of paperbacks; mentioning how costs for small publishers have ballooned significantly in the past ten years; saying he is happy Wagenknecht's monograph on Fanny Appleton Longfellow is doing well; saying his review copy never came, which is why he never sent notice of a forthcoming column; thanking Wagenknecht for bringing the de la Mare recording onto his radar; updating Wagenknecht on the ages of his children and describing how he would like a third and final child, though economically this might not be possible; noting that he just completed "House on the Mound" and will finish another title, "The Moon-Tenders" by July; mentioning "Walden West" is almost finished, and that after its completion he will turn to another historical title, though "I confess the prospect does not please me".
