Summary
Writing that he has contacted the librarian Stanley Pargellis about the missing de la Mare story on the off-chance it might be available at the Newberry Library in Chicago; saying he rarely checks his reviews published in the Chicago Tribune, and that he ascribed any changes in his dealings with them to their retention of Alfred Ames in a new position; assuring that he will forward his new books to Wagenknecht when they come through production, and that the novella should not run longer than 80 or 90 pages; noting that he would still like to publish Arkham's Marjorie Bowen collection "Kecksies" but that British authors have not been selling well enough for him to justify the expense; complaining that this lack of sales indicates "the deterioration of reading standards"; requesting an extra copy of Bowen's "The Carnival of Florence"; mentioning that Pellegrini & Cudahy are handling the trade for Arkham House titles, and that they have transferred some of the books to their own list; concluding with appreciation of Wagenknecht's thoughts on the publication of his student's thesis.
