Summary
Expressing joy that Wagenknecht liked "Wilbur, the Trusting Whippoorwill"; mentioning how Wagenknecht's notes on the illustrations don't bother him nearly as much as Dwig's tendency to render the main character's proportions inaccurately; noting that he wanted Dwig to illustrate "The Moon Tenders" but that he ultimately seemed to "pay little attention to the facts of the story--only to its spirit" which lead to Duell, Sloan & Pearce rejecting the drawings; writing that many of them are hanging up on his walls, which "have been the scene in life and in fiction of many adventures"; congratulating Wagenknecht on his biography of Hawthorne; noting that in spite of May being his "vacation month" he has been working more than ever, and finished the draft for "The Pinkertons Ride Again" and proofed the manuscript for "The Mill Creek Irregulars"; closing by looking forward to completing "Walden West".
