Summary
Sharing an excerpt from a letter by Forrest Reid on behalf of de la Mare, who asked that "do please share this extract with Edward"; including the extract, in which Reid makes recommendations to de la Mare about which stories to include in a possible collection; agreeing with Reid's preference for "The Village of Old Age" even if it is less supernatural than some of de la Mare's other work; enclosing a revised copy of "Hangman Luck" for Wagenknecht's review; mentioning the existence of a still earlier de la Mare story called "A.B.O." which he thinks "is the kind of horror story that I care for the least"; saying that de la Mare agrees with Wagenknecht's suggestion that the collection include more than three tales; reflecting that the collection could hypothetically hold five rather than three stories; saying that Wagenknecht should mention all unanthologized or out of print early tales from de la Mare in the collection's introduction regardless; closing by writing "I fear we are poles apart politically, but, happily, we see pretty much eye to eye in matters literary, which are appreciably more important."
