Summary
Commenting on the prospect of Merchant Ivory making a documentary on Nirad Chaudhuri, which she finds she is no longer so staunchly opposed to; musing on Chaudhuri, his talent and interests; suggesting that Ivory get Chaudhuri to comment on the sudden proliferation of "discothèques" in Delhi; suggesting using Chaudhuri as "an illustration"-- "he doesn't only write about Hindu life & character, he is himself very often a most apt illustration of what he means"; describing how she sees the documentary ending, "with him in his ruffles & lace, holding a champagne glass"; saying "I wish I shared your certainty that we would one day make 'Lovely World'"; wondering if Merchant is back in New York; commenting on "Passion" and "the Shashi-Jennifer film"; claiming "I'm so tired, really all I want to do is curl up & go to sleep for a long time. Yet I want us to get out of this mess! To lift ourselves up again, prove ourselves once more."
