Acknowledging receipt of Wagenknecht's typescript [of Edgar Allan Poe: The Man Behind the Legend]; complementing his work, but saying he has caught a few errors that would have been embarrassing; saying he hopes they might be able to "strengthen the case against [Poe's] HABITUAL use of drugs"; providing evidence; in a postscript, saying Wagenknecht's attitude toward Woodberry is quite just, but that his own comments about Woodberry will be gentler because he was very kind to him; saying he will not pull punches on Poe and his pals or people he never knew; saying he should see what Dr. English, in his last years, said of Woodberry.
