Saying he intended to ride down to her home and enquire about her health, but "two Fates resident here" prevented him from making the visit; contrasting his fixity with Napoleon's conquests; saying the Pope should be well provided for and sent to Jerusalem; saying there can be no hope for intelligence and humanity in America while it is still ruled by [quarries?] and tobacco; acknowledging that she does not like his stern politics, and hoping she accepts his steadfast affection; saying Julia kept him less anxious about Harriet.
