Summary
Complimenting Wagenknecht's book [on Mark Twain], and apologizing for not being "husky enough to give it the very thorough and intimate reading it deserves"; advising him to be sparing in his use of the [Mary Mason] Fairbanks letters as Twain is "likely to be showing off" in them; cautioning that "it is very dangerous to take Mark Twain seriously, and still more dangerous not to do so"; in a postscript, discussing calling Mark Twain "the King".
