Offering sympathy regarding his failure to obtain a Guggenheim Fellowship; suggesting there will be no trouble getting permission to quote from Mark Twain's works [for his book on Twain], and that he may let Wagenknecht see some "bits of manuscript" if he is in New York; anticipating that the Twain diaries will be published in 1935; bemoaning the state of royalties for authors and advising "if you have any job at all my advice is to stay with it"; lauding Lillian Gish's new play, Nine Pine Street, and her acting ability; mentioning another play, Autumn Crocus, in which Dorothy Gish [i.e. Lillian's sister] is starring.
