Writing that her sister Dorothy is currently in Charleston, South Carolina,"trying out a play by Oscar Serlin", while she herself will be starting work of her first technicolor film, "Duel in the sun", directed by King Vidor; adding that they will be moving into a cottage owned by Dr. Hartley Dewey and hoping that her mother will remain with her throughout the summer; stating that she has "no idea when Paramount will release 'Miss Susie Slagle'" and remarking that, should he see it, "I think you will be amused if not entirely pleased."; writing that she glad to hear that he did not take an assignment in Mexico City, as she heard from a cousin who attended a class there that the country is unstable; praising the chapter he has written on (Joseph) Hergesheimer for his book Cavalcade of the American novel; mentioning the November elections and giving her opinion that they "put an end to every American's hope that we could save our country", and telling Dorothy Wagenknecht that she is sorry to hear that she has broken her wrist.
