Thanking him for sending her an article he has written and expressing her hearty agreement with the contents, adding, "It's about time we began being good Americans instead of good Europeans"; admitting that the "Gish book may dull" (a possible reference to John Irvin Hamaker's "Matthias Gish of White Oak") but asserting that it is "a good record of the kind of families that settled this country and made it the solid, substantial nation I believe it fundamentally to be"; informing him that they will be in Chicago for the summer and asking if he can arrange a trip east and visit them.
