Summary
Hoping Merchant is "safely back home & hard at work to get V&H going"; saying he has told his record label HMV that he wants Epic to handle his next record in the U.S., and asking Merchant to put out feelers for a possible deal with Columbia; also asking Merchant to forward a print he has of "Abhiyana" to Cinema Guild so that he (Ray) does not need to go to the expense of striking a new one; thanking Merchant for the galleys of [Ved Mehta's] "Delinquent Chacha," though he liked very little of it, and suggesting "let's think of something else for Peter Sellers because I really would love to make a film with him"; observing that "Sahkespeare Wallah" has opened in Bombay, and that "Brando has agreed to work on my SF [science fiction film]-- but so has Steve McQueen!"; telling Merchant that he is trying to set up a screening of "Charulata" for Arthur Clarke, and asking Merchant to call Clarke to check up on the arrangements; sending his best to Ivory.
