Summary
Apologizing for not writing sooner and explaining that she has been ill following an injection for lockjaw (i.e. tetanus) after she "foolishly entered a dog fight", and she has been conserving her strength for performances of Uncle Vanya; informing him that she will be touring in Uncle Vanya and returning home in December to prepare for her next play which she thinks "will be one from the Italian", and noting that "Othello" has been postponed "As Mr. Harris was unable to find a satisfactory Othello"; expressing her disappointment with the film "One romantic night" and her hope that she never be compelled to make another talking picture; informing him that Alfred (i.e. Albert) Bigelow Paine is "doing some biographical sketches of me" and may contact Wagenknecht to ask his permission to use some of the material from the piece he wrote for Glenn Hughes; adding that he speaks of him "with such high praise", and mentioning books by Paine on Mark Twain, Jeanne d'Arc, and Jenny Lind.
