Summary
Discussing at length and in great detail the new ideas Ruth has broached for the Ustad film [later to be called "The Guru"]; mulling Ruth's inclusion of a pop star into the plot, and wondering if Ringo Starr would be interested; saying they will need a synopsis first to generate actor and financing interest, then with those in place he will fly to India and they can write the script together "in one sweep"; disagreeing, on the other hand, with Ruth's suggestions for the "Shakespeare Wallah" sequel, and insisting they need a script in order to really secure financing; telling her "someday I really want to do a historical-type film"; saying that Paramount is still fiddling around" with "Vertical and Horizontal," and Satyajit Ray is currently in Los Angeles and will be coming to stay with Ivory and Merchant in New York; telling her that "Madhur got married last Friday to Sanford, her boy friend. I'm glad. They looked happy. He's a nice man."
