Summary
Describing in great detail the casting process for "Vertical and Horizontal," which Ivory is currently engaged in; elaborating on a difficulty he recently had with Lillian over the casting of Dr. Blauberman-- how they decided to cast Herb Edelman in the part, but then Lillian had second thoughts and could not seem to understand that the actor will be acting and doesn't need to actually be all the things that the character is; describing arguing with her over whether Edelman is "too nice" to play Blauberman, and and saying no to her new choice, Louis Nye; asking in disbelief: "How can she have really written a big book about actors, interviewed more than a hundred of them, seen hundreds of movies and films, and still maintain that the actor has to be the person he plays?"; moving on to the "Shakespeare Wallah" sequel, and describing a strategy for securing the financing for it; outlining 11 points that he wants to include in the Ustad film [later, "The Guru"].
