Summary
Giving Lobrano an update on the story he is working on, which his agent Dorothy Olding informed him Lobrano was inquiring after, and which is giving him trouble; wishing, "(insincerely, of course) that I hadn't started out three years ago with as good a story as A PERFECT DAY FOR BANANAFISH"; musing at length on his habitual "terrible state of competition with myself" and the inherent unhealthiness of writing; reassuring Lobrano that, in spite of these thoughts, he is indeed writing; reassuring him, also, that "I don't really feel as gloomy as I sound"; suggesting that, if the "war situation" is depressing Lobrano, that he-- Lobrano-- should write about it, just for himself.
