Summary
Offering a long and detailed description of the current situation between India and Pakistan, with eyewitness accounts from Cyril Dunn and Kushwant Singh; saying she recently received a clipping of Bosley Crowther's review of "Shakespeare Wallah" in the mail from one of her old boyfriends from school in Germany, Herbert Gans, who is now a sociology professor at Columbia University and living on Riverside Drive; describing her delight at hearing from him-- "you can't think how much these sudden surprise discoveries thrill people like us who are entirely cut off from the places & people of our childhood, & indeed know most of the latter to be dead"-- and asking Merchant and Ivory to invite him to any private screening they might have of "Shakespeare Wallah" in New York; passing on news from Jennifer, who isn't sure whether she should return to India or not, and told Ruth that her father has demanded that Foo (her sister Felicity) come back to India; voicing her disgust with Kendal-- "Selfish old man!"-- for this demand, and for not wanting Jennifer to marry Shashi; asking them to write back about "normal, peaceful things like films, & normal, peaceful lives in Apt. 12-G."
