Summary
Saying she is "still pretty upset" about Satyajit Ray charging them Rs.10,000 to do the music for "Shakespeare Wallah," as she was yesterday when she last wrote, and Jhab agrees they shouldn't pay it; wishing they had done what Merchant had suggested and just had the music done in Bombay by someone unknown; asking why they want to do a train scene; picking up after receiving a letter from Ivory which did not mention the Rs.10,000 or the train scene, and asking "Are you being tactful?"; telling them Jhab doesn't tell her anything lately because of her inexplicable bouts of anxiety and rage; saying she likes "the church-bell idea," and asking questions about some other edits; listing and discussing other ideas she likes; suggesting replacing a bus scene with a scene in a train compartment, then questioning whether the gains from this would be worth the expense of shooting it; insisting "that close-up of Carla's though, is essential"; concluding "Probably, under stress of some new anxiety, I shall be writing again tomorrow. Or perhaps by tomorrow I shall be in a calm, resigned, all-in-God's-hands mood: nearer, my Guru, to thee."
