Summary
Opening "Ismail is back from London with stories of incredible triumphs and a distribution contract"; describing the distribution deal, which also covers Ivory's three shorts, and "Shakespeare Wallah"'s excellent critical reception at the London Film Festival; saying Foo (Felicity Kendal) has found representation and has an audition for the National Theatre lined up; musing that it's a pity Madhur didn't come, but perhaps it's just as well, as "it enabled Foo to shine in undiminished glory"; telling them James Fox and his father, agent Robin Fox, both liked the film and have expressed interest in "Esmond in India," while also giving Merchant notes on the story and suggesting that Ivory and Ruth collaborate with Harold Pinter on the screenplay; asking if Ruth would be interested in working that way; saying that Columbia is interested in "the policeman story," and that Lillian Ross is writing the script for the New York short he is supposed to be shooting; mentioning that Robin Fox is also enthusiastic about a possible sequel to "Shakespeare Wallah"; updating her on how Madhur is doing-- "not quite as bad off as her sister thinks"; signing off "maybe Show Biz isn't all that bad after all."
