Summary
Voicing his relief at getting their letters and news about the war, especially since there is a newspaper strike in New York which limits their access to news, except for the "wretched afternoon paper," the Post; saying he has fallen "into the bad graces of Paul and Peggy" because they dislike "Shakespeare Wallah"; admitting that the telegram he and Ismail sent describing a "clean sweep" of the citics was slightly exaggerated, because the Post didn't like the film, but most other outlets did; describing the festival screening of "Shakespeare Wallah," with he and Madhur seated in a box and spotlighted when the film ended, and Ismail running off to Times Square to buy the papers as soon as they came out, then returning to "thrust the reviews into our hands literally the moment we stepped out of the box"; describing how in the following days many people stopped to compliment them on the film, and that the positive reception will make it easier to sell the film to distributors; noting the difference between this and the reception for "The Householder"; telling them that he and Ismail have been doing "masses of panel discussions and television programs," including "The Open Mind," during which Ismail got into "a fearful row" with Otto Preminger, while Carl Dreyer sat and stared at his hands; saying he will be going to Dinuba to see his father and Ruth should write him there; mentioning that they have pitched "Esmond in India" to their new agent, Ashley Famous, and asking for Ruth's support.
