Summary
Lamenting that she hasn't received the letter Ivory sent from Kasauli; reporting that "The Householder is still "doing fine" in Delhi, althought Mittal of Columbia is claiming it isn't and that all the positive reports she has heard are just flattery; relating that, at a Vilayat Khan concert, multiple people approached her to say they'd enjoyed "The Householder," and an explanation she heard for Leela Naidu's appearance at the Delhi premiere; describing Kushwant Singh's return from London, and his intense dislike for V.S. Naipaul's latest book; segueing into a general survey of the reviews Naipaul has been getting, generally positive, except from Dorothy Norman, who Ruth doubts will like Nirad Chaudhuri's new book either; describing the conflict with John Murray over the title of her next book; wishing Ismail could visit Delhi briefly so they could do a location scout for the hunt scene in "Shakespeare Wallah"; pointing out a misprint in the "Shakespeare Wallah" script; asking about other possible locations; signing off; picking up the next day, saying Mittal at Columbia was right and sales for "The Householder" have slacked off; enclosing a letter from Walter King [not present]; saying she is not enjoying gathering the gossip about "The Householder"; letting Ivory know his letter has finally arrived; asking what to do when the rushes arrive in Delhi; assuring Ivory that he should feel free to revise the script for "Shakespeare Wallah" on set; saying she is enclosing a terrible review of "The Householder" but then taking it back as she cannot get her hands on it; quoting it mockingly.
