Summary
Announcing that the negative and print of "The Householder" made it through customs today without any duty paid, "after a month and a half's hard work"; saying "it is now nearly January 16th and in a couple of weeks the month will pass" and the next month will mark a year since they completed "The Householder"; expressing frustration at having to "wait and wait and wait" for its Indian release, contingent on letters from the Indian Finance Ministry and Columbia's capitulation; saying he now expects the release to be in April or May; passing on what Leela Naidu said at dinner yesterday, that she had never said anything against them (Merchant and Ivory), and blaming "the Mukerjees" for what appeared in the press; mentioning that Kay Clark (at the American consulate in Delhi), through whom Ivory sent a one-sheet and some sound recordings [see MA 23840.67], was upset and concerned she might get in trouble for accepting it, so they should not ship anything through her in the future; signing off saying "Ramazan" (Ramadan) is starting and wishing Ivory could be in India for "Id" (Eid).
