Recounting waiting for Ivory to call on the telephone; saying Ivory needs to get Columbia to accept the proposal of the Indian government which Merchant outlined in a cable, and that Ruth is anxiously awaiting Ivory's word on the structure for the actors film [later "Shakespeare Wallah"]; discussing the possibility of making a film of Ruth's short story "The Widow"-- Merchant is "very strongly" in favor, but Ruth thinks it is "too Indian" for Ivory (Merchant disagrees); expressing concern about money and their long separations, but saying he will not do Kariwala's commercial film; saying he is "anxiously awaiting here in Delhi for your detail [sic] letter on present and future plans."
