Marking Ivory's birthday and hoping he received the birthday cable (see MA 23840.41); thanking them for the records they sent via her friend Rana, recently arrived from New York, and for a copy of the script; discussing the practicalities of having The Householder translated into French by her friend 'Elaine" [sic] Rewal; telling Merchant and Ivory that she and her family will be going to Kasauli for 8 days to escape the heat and boredom of Delhi; discussing some photographs presumably sent by Ivory for consideration for use on her book cover; passing on information and messages from a letter from Jennifer Kendal regarding Kendal and her husband Shashi Kapoor; expressing horror at doing interviews and television appearances, as Merchant has been doing-- "Delhi is hot, Delhi is boring, but-- oh, am I glad to be here, when I read of those TV appearances and panel discussions (!!) Ismail wants me to take part in with him there. Fearful shudders are going up + down my spine."
