Summary
Mentioning that he sent her another copy of the (St. James) Gazette and commenting on the current political situation, "If Lord S. (i.e. Lord Salisbury) is appointed, as I don't doubt he will be, it will be because his friends know he would make himself too disagreeable if they refused him. But it is a mistake wh. his party will bitterly regret. It throws Lord Derby (his foe) more nearly into the opposite ranks, and Lord D. is the most popular man in the country after Mr. G. & may even resolve Lord D. to take office with the Liberals even while Mr. Gladstone lives."; expressing particular concern over a "very grave" editorial error made in the St. James Gazette by Mr. F. Drummond ("The oath upon wh. that article about Bradlaugh was written, is not the oath in force now at all. It is the worst blunder we have ever made in the whole 16 years of my editorial career."; mentioning a pleasant visit to Seaford.
