Dated "Thursday"; letter dated with a suggested date of December 31, 1880 by former owner; the fact that December 31 fell on a Friday of that year, however, suggests December 30 as the probable date of writing.
Written on light green stationery.

Informing her that his cold has gone, describing both the weather and the city as "dull", mentioning that he visited the Wiertz museum and came away in need of a glass of brandy, and complaining that some of the pictures must be viewed through peepholes; stating that he plans to visit Antwerp and Bruges, and noting that Bruges is flooded, and that steam pumps were pumping water out of the basements of some shops in Brussels the day before.
