Reporting that he is still ill and is going to England to seek treatment; informing that his wife, Virginia de Lanty, died "some weeks ago"; discussing his difficulty at watching her die as well as her care for him and her being younger than he, and noting that she and Tripp "were the only women I have truly loved"; resigning himself to living in the past; informing on plays he has running, "pushing my number to over a hundred", and a television show; asking forgiveness for the "dismal" nature of this letter but giving his love "at ninety-six" and hoping to meet "in the next world".
