Summary
Discussing the positive reception of "Anya" by audiences, newspapers, Ed Sullivan and various "radio and T.V. people", Peter Hayes and Mary Healey [sic], and Ed and Pegeen Fitzgerald, as well as some negative reviews, notably by Walter Kerr; commenting positively on the album for "Anya" and promising to get her one, though he does not have one himself; noting no big names in the cast, though praising Constance Towers; relating a "bad mistake" done by George Abbott in having an expensive dinner in his honor "celebrating the naming of a theatre after him" on the night before the first public performance, and remarking that he is "about the most conceited man I ever knew"; informing that the scenes from his earlier play, "Anastasia" went over well but that Abbott "thought anything he contributed was sacrosanct and refused to budge in the face of criticism"; describing strife between himself and Abbott but mentioning a reconciliation; hoping to hear about "Teddy Stirling"; noting that his home is marvelous and that Lawrence Grossmith was there "cosily drinking himself to death"; hoping his next letter will be more interesting; noting that he went to a party with "some weird people".
