Commenting on how long it has been since he last wrote; informing that he has recently written a pair of theatrical comedies and has also published a new volume of tales; introducing Danish author Valdemar Adolph Thisted, who wants his novel, Breve fra Helvede, translated into English by Mrs. Bushby and published by Bentley; informing that Thisted will soon write and that Andersen has not read the manuscript, "as I am going to Lissabon, if the kolera, as I hope, soon is ceasing there as wel [sic] as in France".
