Recounting his trip to the town of Llanidloes, which he describes as "about the filthiest place anywhere out of the main street that ever was seen", adding "The people are poor, & foul: with swarms of dirty children as make you hot with anger at the parents, & guardians. But there are dozens of chapels: godliness being a cheaper virtue than cleanliness."
