Informing her that he has been sleeping well of late; wondering what to send Jessy, noting that he owes her a watch chain and that she would probably like a ring, expressing his approval for a proposed "fête", and assuring her that he is not concerned about her expenses; suggesting she ask Jenny why she does not get along with Jessy, and remarking "Your American young man must have been a bore"; recounting an evening dining with Mr. Saunders which he described as "not pleasant", a meeting with Lady de Crespigny ("a tall, fair, pretty girl"), and his plans to dine with the Stanleys.
