Summary
Thanking for his "very generous review of my Annotated Edition of Forster's Life of Dickens"; disagreeing with other Dickensian scholars over Dickens' relationship with Mary Hogarth; defending his omission of reference to Ellen Ternan, as he considered the affair a piece of scandlemongering [sic]" and he felt "to revive it all would be to give pain to Sir Henry Dickens and Mrs Perugini"; describing a disagreement with C.E. Bechhofer Roberts about matters relating to Dickens and Forster; asserting that "as the only Editor of Forster I ought to be worthy of his steel".
