Summary
Responding to a previous note by Wagstaff, stating "Your note is very curious & I confess to me not very clear - unless I much mistake myself the course for me to pursue & which I did follow was exactly that which I had to take in other committees & what that was you know as well as I do."; adding that he is mistaken in supposing that he is "the Disciple" of "Mr. P" or any other, but that his "greatest error is in wanting to put the question, you refer to, upon such purely personal grounds"; pointing out that the matter he wished to confer with him about had nothing to do "with the aforesaid question" but rather "was relative to the Committee alterations", and asking him "By the the way, who are the young men you mention laughing at? Who has put on the Fools-cap? is it me? If so, I am not likely to know ... your note is too enigmatical."; thanking him in a postscript "for the addresses."
