Referring to Landor's "persecution by those unworthy people" (a reference to the action for libel brought against him back in England by Mrs. Yescombe) which he finds "too hateful" to speak of, counseling Landor to avoid reading about the case in the newspapers and to personally remain silent on the matter, and emphasizing that he has "stoat friends" who will speak for him; adding that he will look into the matter of the "anonymous letters" which Landor stands accused of having sent.
