Summary
Flaubert talks about Colet's cold and his view of physical suffering. He says that, like Egypt, he needs regular floods of style to survive. He suggests that once again, Colet is writing too quickly and states that a writer should not give himself/herself a deadline. He expresses his admiration for the work of Louis Bouilhet, his friend, mentor, and guide. Mentions writing to D'Arpentigny and reading Babinet and Lageolais. Finishes by saying that, all in all, he is happy with the progress of Madame Bovary, although it is proceeding by fits and starts.
