Summary
A small collection of photographs of painted portraits of members and relatives of the Brontë family, consisting of of 9 photographs; 2 large-form postcards from the National Portrait Gallery, London; and 1 envelope. Little is know about the items, other than that they were in the possession of Henry Houston Bonnell; no photographer is credited. Each photograph has notes on the verso in an unidentified hand, identifying the subject and giving dates and details; every original portrait but one is noted to be in the possession of "Captain Branwell." The remaining original portrait, of Elizabeth Branwell, is listed as being in the possession of C.M. Edgerly. The (empty) envelope is from William H. Rau, photographer, Philadelphia, and addressed in pencil to Henry H. Bonnell / 1305 Land Title Building; its relationship to the photographs is unknown.
