Summary
Acknowledging that he ought to have written sooner, thanking Balston for a "pleasant evening" and a "generous gift", and recounting how busy he is at present with his book projects and a lecture to be given at Oxford the next day; discussing the placement of some new pictures, including one by Tom Nash and Balston himself; stating that he hopes to "see Parker at Oxford tomorrow & to get a move on about the P. Veronese: if he doesn't take it I gather that George Churchill would be very glad of it"; observing that there are some good sales that week, although he doubts he will get to them, and that the Sothebys sale has probably "ruined the hopes of every dealer & even rubbish will start to get big prices!"
