Summary
Informing Balston that he has been offered the position of art master at Ackworth School near Pontefract, where he will make £350 a year and be entitled to a government pension after 30 years of teaching, of which he has already completed 15; writing that he finds the school appealing, that it has a "lovely art room" and studio for the art master, and that the ample vacation time should allow him to continue to pursue his painting; adding that he hopes to sell the "Crucifixion" and that the Contemporary Art Society are giving £20 towards the purchase of the painting "providing Mr. Withers will contribute the remaining amount"; mentioning that Mr. Withers has invited him to Banbury for the weekend, but that he does not have enough money to afford the fare; explaining that the prospective job he formerly mentioned painting cinema signs proved "impossible", but that he is considering the possibility of submitting ideas for posters to the London Underground; adding that (Rex) Nan Kivell has suggested he try making some lino-cuts, and that if he can only tide himself over until September he will "feel all anxiety past."
