Summary
Writing that the "partial failure" of his show has made it necessary for him to look for employment that would place him on a sounder financial footing ,and to that end he has been seeking a full time teaching post, although it is proving difficult as the Board of Education does not recognize the "Slade certificate the equivalent of the A.R.C.A., so that I cannot be placed on the Burnham Scale, usually an essential condition of the appointment."; explaining that he is reluctant to abandon the greater time for his painting, but that he is unable to make ends meets teaching part time and selling his pictures, adding that attempts to supplement his income with such pursuits as stain glass painting and commercial work have been unsuccessful and asking Balston if he thinks there might be some opportunities for him in book illustration, adding that his recurring (financial) struggles are affecting him adversely and that he "should not mind what kind of work I obtained if I could augment my earnings".
