1 item (2 pages) ; 25.5 x 20.5 cm
Notes
Written on letterhead stationery from: The William Blake Trust.
Forms part of a collection chiefly composed of letters received from friends and associates of the English publisher Thomas Balston (1883-1967); see: MA 13112.
This and the proceeding letter from Keynes (MA 13112.) appear to refer to an item identified as a facsimile impression printed by Emery Walker of William Hayley's poem "Little Tom the sailor", originally issued in 1800, and etched in relief with a tailpiece designed and engraved on pewter by William Blake (see PML 29974); the watermark identified in the Library's collection catalog as " POUNCY" rather than "PODNOY" as Keynes has here transcribed it.
Provenance
Bequest of Gordon N. Ray, 1987.
Summary
Asking for his assistance in identifying the date of a sheet of paper watermarked "PODNOY" in possession of the Morgan Library, upon which William Blake's broadside edition of the poem "Little Tom the sailor" [by William Hayley] has been printed; stating that he suspects it is a facsimile printed by Emery Walker in 1886, and asking if Balston knows of any lists of 19th century paper makers to which he might refer.
