Summary
Acknowledging a letter and writing that he agrees with Hughes-Stanton's high opinion of Mark Gertler's work; adding that "it is now three years since I suggested to Rothenstein that he should have a memorial exhibition at the Tate" but that nothing came of it, and he therefore "wrote to Whitechapel, and they immediately agreed"; noting that it "essential" that it be held in a public gallery, as a dealer "would have insisted upon putting in any unsold works of Mark's irrespective of their merits", and that it is his object "to compel the critics, by the sheer splendour of the exhibition, to revise their tepid judgements"; informing Hughes-Stanton that he has secured copies of books featuring Hughes-Stanton's wood engravings (for inclusion in his upcoming exhibition of books with wood engravings by modern English wood engravers)..
